Congratulations Mrs Salazar

Mrs Salazar with her award

Congratulations Mrs Salazar

We are so proud of Mrs Salazar as she received the 2018 Australian College of Educators Young Professional Award for her impressive work in supporting early career teachers. This award recognises a teacher in the first 7 years of their teaching career, who has demonstrated excellence in teaching and a high level of personal commitment to the teaching profession, through innovation, leadership and/or scholarship. The ceremony was held at the Stamford Plaza Sydney Airport on Friday evening and was attended by her family and some JPPS colleagues.

Stephanie was the founder and president of the Macquarie University Education Society. She is a regular workshop presenter and facilitator, contributing to the professional learning of colleagues through Teach Meets, the Science Teachers’ Association, Education Changemakers, the ACE National Conference and through her work as an instructional coach at our school.

Her work as an instructional coach has effectively introduced new staff members to best practice. It has involved Stephanie in working in partnership with new and experienced teachers to improve the quality of instruction so that student progress can be enhanced.

Her passion for supporting early career teachers is also evident in the Preservice Teacher chat on Twitter that she initiated as well as the establishment of the New Teacher Tribe across the country. Recently she organised a highly successful New Teacher Tribe conference, which proved to be extremely popular. On the horizon is Stephanie’s next goal of hosting even bigger and better New Teacher Tribe conferences.

Apart from Stephanie’s capacity to support her colleagues, I feel her biggest gifts to the profession are: her relentless commitment to being the best teacher she can be, her capacity to connect with others,  her ability to see the best in students and colleagues and to inspire excellent practice in others. Mrs Salazar was a very worthy recipient of this prestigious award, and I am sure there are many parents in our community who join me in enthusiastically congratulating her on this impressive achievement.
